Technology nowadays has become more advanced and innovative, our digital gadgets making our daily life more complex, and it is harder to catch up with the new fashions and designs. For examples, digital watches are more popular in the markets now these days and are available for purchase since the “first mechanical watch was introduced in 1505 by Peter Henlein from Nuremberg in Germany” according to amusingplanet.com. We have evolved from mechanical chain linked pocket watches into the digital wrist watches, then to smart watches, a cellular phone inside a wristwatch. Smart watches have become one of the revolutionary inventions that feature a portable computer on a watch and that allow you to operate this small gadget through a touchscreen, and to accomplish many activities that you can accomplish on a cellular phone. It combines both features of a typical watch and smartphone, which allow an individual to achieve many objectives without worries about where we are located and when to start exercise. It also allows us to keep track of time, make communication easier, monitor health, track exercise records, make payments and enjoy entertainment based on the offer of the model and manufacturer. Furthermore, we can also show off our flashy gadget matching our clothing style. Many also offer relaxing entertainment like audio music and audio books, video games, Apps, and some also install features for fitness training or exercising. All the equipped features and functioning make that gadget sales in the market more compatible. The most popular brands of today for smart wrist watches are the brand of Apple watches and Fitbit watches. Apple watches and the Fitbit watches are made from two different manufacturers offering similar features and variants. Therefore, I would like to do my side-by-side review about their features, their differences and similarities, so which type of Smart watches are better, the Apple Watches or the Fitbit?
Health and Fitness Orientation
Both Apple watch and Fitbit have one important feature that is significant for the competition between them and makes their sales and business sink or rise. Both offer the capability for health orientation. Both are capable to collect 24 hours health data in cardiac and respiratory function while the person is resting, working in office duties or heavy labor duties, or working out in gymnasium. The data of heart rate if it is fast or slow, blood pressure if it is high or low to help physicians diagnose if one has heart problem, the galvanic skin response to measure if one is fear, stress or excitement when the environment changes. The rhythm and rate of respiration and oxygen saturation are monitored and collected to assist health personnel to identify if one has sleep apnea or a restful night. The main difference is that Fitbit watch comes with a robust feature that has a personal trainer to help us to become a higher level of fitness or rehabilitate one to be more fit or to maintain fitness and healthy weight. The gadget also monitors how many calories one burnt during their daily activities. This will give feedback on one’s basal metabolic rate so to determine if one needs to change weight to get a healthy weight balance by recommending how many steps or miles needed to walk to pursue the target weight and calorie burnt. While the Apple watch makes recommended fitness program according to one’s age and needed time of exercise according to self-endurance. Apple watch also one better tribute for their health orientation program. Based on the evaluation from Health.usnews.com and www.verywellfit.com claimed that Apple watch can detect an emergency situation when the heart rate dramatically changes to the direction of too fast or too slow that may endanger one’s immediate health or life critical situation, and that the watch has a capability to alert emergency rescue team to respond for immediate help.
Communication advantages
Both the Apple watch and Fitbit watch have internet Wi-Fi capabilities, but the functionality is very different. Fitbit watch provides the link to connect an Android phone or Apple phone so we can receive phone call or text messages but cannot make calls or text messages without the connection with phone. However, it allows you to connect the watch with a speaker headphone to commend your phone to send out message. On the other hand, the Apple watch offers multiple utilities capabilities, it works like a cellular phone independently, the Wi-Fi connect call and text coming in and out, radio to listen music and broadcast, banking, paying bills for sales, searching information, installing Apps for activities like videos, video games and audio music and many other entertainments, just like a cellular phone built in a watch. It can hold up thousand files based on the Gega bit capacity.
Durability and Fashion
Both watches have been made
to use as long last as the technology originally prepared and installed. Each
manufacturer designed different models with different attributes for customers
to choose according to their needs of functions and price tolerances. Usually,
the watch lasts longer than the offered serving technologies. Fitbit is
lightweight since it uses silicone band with a lithium battery installed and
lasts for 6 days of functioning before recharging. While Apple watch battery
life lasts less than sixty hours. Both Apple watch and Fitbit watch can be worn
in the water as they have waterproof capabilities. The design is catering for
active individuals like swimming, water sports, hiking, and wildlife. Both
watches have fashionable color designs to choose from your preferences, but
Apple watch is slightly larger and with a clearer and brighter screen on the
surface in the design.
In conclusion, people buy
this watch based on their preference, needs for the activities, functions, and
cost. I like Apple watch if I can afford one since the communication
capabilities allow me like owning a cellular phone and fitting my active
lifestyle. I am planning a career in music and sound design program, constantly
working with a computer so the features that Apple watch holds will give me the
opportunities to serve my study, work and leisure activities when occasions
arise such as playing music, listening to audio books, swimming, playing tennis
and cycling. However, the cost for an Apple watch is not my present financial
affordability because I am a student dependent on my parents’ support. An Apple
watch costs from around four hundred to over a thousand dollars based on the
installed features. I am glad and grateful to my parents that I have a cellular
phone for connecting with my friends and family, occasionally searching for
information and listening to music to construct ideas for homework. Since
Fitbit watch is catering and targeting for people who need fitness and health,
it is cheaper and costs around sixty to a little over hundreds of dollars. I
think this Fitbit is more suitable for seniors to use for extra health
maintenance issues.
