Side-by-Side Review: Litjoy or FairyLoot?
Getting special edition books can be a huge deal to people, but with how popular special editions and book subscriptions have become it can be very hard to pick which website to look at. FairyLoot and Litjoy are two book websites that sell special edition books and offer a book subscription, so, what’s the difference? In this article we will be going over how easy the websites are to use, book prices, subscriptions, shipping costs, types of books they sell, and other products each website sells.
Website usage:
First things first, how easy is it to use each website? While both websites are relatively easy to navigate, they do have slight differences. FairyLoot is located in the United Kingdom; however, they do ship to the US and Canada so on the website when you first go to it, they allow you to switch the pricing to US dollars. When you click on the menu (the three lines in the corner) the first thing you see is “subscriptions” underneath it goes to “shop”, then to “their story” and “blog”. Theres only one issue the website seems to have when you click on the shop is has options for categories and collections, but it doesn’t actually show the categories, so you have to random click one before it shows up.
On Litjoy’s website when you click the three lines it shows the shop, subscriptions, and membership. When you click on the shop it shows all of their categories including the option to shop for specific authors. Litjoy also has a search option while FairyLoot doesn’t. Another plus for Litjoy is they are located in the US so seeing US prices is a lot easier to do on their website. For these reasons I do believe Litjoy’s website is a tiny bit easier to navigate but both websites make it easy to see what they sell.
Book pricing:
Book pricing is a huge factor when it comes to special edition websites, so what’s the price range for each website? FairyLoot is a website based in the United Kingdom and their prices range from 18.50-24 euros (for US dollars it would be a range from 21.68-38.13). Most are ranged from 22-24 euros (for US dollars it would be 25.79-38.13). For their box sets the price ranges from 40-96 euros (US dollars is 46.89-112.53) most are around 60-70 euros (US dollars is 70.33-82.05) and usually contain three books. In the lower range (40 euro or 46.89 USD) it typically contains three books and in the higher range (96 euros or 112.53 USD) it contains four books.
On Litjoy when looking at books that are sold individually the prices range from $15.99 being the lowest and $60 being the highest. Most books on this website however range from $25- 35. For their books that are percussed as a set they currently only have three, one costs $199 this comes with four books, the second set comes with three books and that costs 140$, the final one also comes with three books and costs 150$. For this section I don’t think there is necessarily one better than the other. This really depends on your personal budget and the books you prefer.
Subscriptions:
FairyLoot has two subscriptions for YA (young adult) books, one is book only and costs 25.90$ a month the second box comes with four items and it costs 35.90$. The next box is also a book only subscription and it is an adult hardcover book which costs 28$ after that there is a romantasy book only box that costs 29$. After that there’s a book only fantasy that is 33$ but this subscription ships quarterly (only 4 times a year). The final three boxes are multiple box subscriptions, there’s a two-book combo for a YA book and an adult book which costs 49.90$, the next one is an adult book and a romantasy book and these costs 51.90$, the final box comes with three a YA, adult, and a romantasy book this costs 82.90$.
Both websites offer book subscriptions Litjoy offers three different subscriptions while FairyLoot offers eight. Litjoy’s three subscription boxes are book only, standard, and deluxe. For the book only subscription costs 22.99$, standard comes with one book and five items and that costs 46.99$ the items change from each box though typically you get to pick between two different options, the deluxe box comes with one book and eight items, and it costs 66.99$. Fairlyloot has many more subscription options than Litjoy does however it is also important to note that Fairyloot does have a waitlist for their boxes, but Litjoy does not. In my opinion Fairyloot is the better option here since there are many more options for subscriptions.
Shipping costs:
Shipping costs is another important factor to look into since sometimes shipping can make the total cost feel way more expensive. Shipping cost is going to be a bit different based off where you live so this is only an estimate in order to give you an idea of costs. For Fairyloot shipping costs 7$ along with a 3.11$ tax on a book that costs 28$ bringing the total to 38.11$. For Litjoy their shipping costs 5.50$ however if you get more than one book it costs an extra 1.75$ per book. On a book that costs 22.99 it has a tax of 2.53 bringing the total to 31.02$ with tax and shipping costs. I believe Litjoy is better for shipping for two reasons the first being it’s a little cheaper, the second is because Litjoy is based in the US shipping will take less time.
Book Genres:
Everyone has different book genres they like, and it can differ a lot between person to person which can make up your mind about what websites to use. Fairyloot focuses more on newer more popular books, and it tends to stick in the romance or fantasy genres. However, they also have a lot of options for both genres though they are more well known for their romantasy special editions.
Litjoy focuses mostly on romance books and classics and other than the classic books most of them are titles and authors that I don’t see mentioned in media as much. Litjoy has special editions for books like Frankenstein, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, and a few other classics along with having more modern books with a good mix of ones that are well known and others that aren’t. This is an important fact to consider when deciding between the two websites because getting a book that you would enjoy is the most important thing to think about when buying a special edition book.
Other items:
Finally, each website also has other book-ish items you can choose from which can help you choose which website is the best fit for you. Fairyloot sells bookmarks based on Greek mythology, but they also sell tarot cards in sets of two for 6$. Litjoy however sells collectible keys based off books or book characters, shirts, socks, pins, notebooks and pens, and even some kitchenware that’s all based of different books or just on being a reader in general. Litjoy also offers a membership which allows you to get discounts and early access to new products. While Fairyloot has more book options Litjoy has more book-ish items so for this it depends on what types of items you are wanting to know what website best fits you.
Conclusion:
In the end each website has their own unique books and items they offer so it’s important to consider all of these factors when picking what website to buy from. Even though both websites sell books and book items they differ in a lot of ways with costs, book genres, and other items they sell. Either way each website is amazing in its own way so ultimately the choice is yours and either way you’ll be left with amazing books that are both fun to read and look ascetically pleasing on a bookshelf. While I haven’t bought anything from either website, yet I think I’d be more likely to buy from first Litjoy however, I think both websites are wonderful, and I will eventually buy from both of them.
